  Would the WTS prefer a smaller church of devoted adherents like the Pope?

  is it possible that the society would prefer a smaller church membership with loyal, devoted witnesses?

  if the annual report is anything to go by, it seems that membership is getting smaller, and more are leaving over apostacy.. .

  I seem to recall in the book 30 years Watchtower Slave by W Schnell that he felt one of the society's first aims was to become the national religion and even the main international religion of the world.

  I'm not sure how true this is as the idea must have been dropped a long time ago.

  With the orgs fanatical enthusings about facts, figures, hours, percentage growth and such I think they would still like to see the JW's grow in size. I don't think they give a rats ass about the quality or devotedness of the individuals as they take great delight later on in being able to kick them out when they don't tow the line.

  144,000 going to heaven, based on what??

  let's face it, most jw's believe that there is clear biblical evidence that shows that only 144k will go to heaven and rule as kings during the 1000 yr reign.

  when examining this topic without the aid of anything but the bible itself, it paints quite a different picture.

  you would need to make some blind assumptions to come to the wt conclusion regarding this topic.. jws take it for granted this scripture rev.

  I agree Oldsoul that the number must be symbolic. In fact it's weird reasoning by the JW's to think it's literal after taking everything else in Revelation as symbolic.

  the name jah is found throughout the hebrew scriptures.

  have you not tried reading a hebrew interlinear to see this?

  examples of the use of jah are found even in many peoples' names such as: isaiah (meaning salvation of jah), jeremiah (meaning jah loosens), zedekiah (meaning jah is righteousness), zephaniah (meaning jah has concealed), zechariah (meaning jah has remembered), abijah (meaning my god is jah), etc., etc., etc.

  I always hoped it would... and yet I was kinda scared of it. It was because as a JW it seems nothing you do is good enough and you can always do more so I was always confused as to what the benchmark was for getting in the 'new world'.

  They destroy people's prospects for real life now, regardless of any thought someone might have about afterlife.

  Definitely agree with that AlmostAtheist. It reminds me of a thought Michael Caine said on a few occasions during interviews that 'some people live their lives like it's a rehearsal and not that important. Well it isn't - this is it. make the most of it.'

  I'm pretty sure it's a dig at the JW attitude cos I knew the lady who was his housekeeper for many years. She is a JW and used to leave him watchtowers and awakes on his coffee table and 'witness' to him and his wife.
